Summer Styling Trends you should follow for 2024!

Now that the days are getting longer, the evenings are feeling warmer, and the beer gardens are getting fuller, it’s time to bring that feeling into your home to shake the old winter blues out! There are always ways you can make your home feel warmer, brighter and more summer-y… because let’s be honest, in Ireland you take the heat when you get it! Home furnishings and homewares can be treated the same way as fashion; once you know what’s popular/trending in fashion, it’s only a matter of time before we see elements of this in home magazines and company blogs (hi there).

Here’s 3 ways you can bring summer into your home with some things you probably already have, can DIY or buy!

We will be discussing… Boho 3.0; Whites and Brights; Gingham

Tip 1: Boho 3.0

We all know and love the Bohemian (boho) style, but this style has been getting upgrades year on year, this time around it is called Boho 3.0, as Glamour Magazine calls it. Why? The re-introduction of crochet and fringe. And coupled with some newer muted pastel-tones and floral patterns. You can bring this effortlessly into your home. For example, in your living room, you could add a cute crochet cushion cover to your existing decorative cushions. This can be handmade, store-bought, whichever you prefer – we won’t judge you if you can’t crochet… Adding fringe to your lampshades is very vintage, but like my mother always says, “everything always comes back”, so pull out your old fringe lampshade or DIY your own because fringe is back and bigger than ever! And of course, our muted and pastel tones with brown undertones is what makes Boho 3.0 different to the OG Boho!

Tip 2: Whites & Brights

Sky blue, Limoncello yellow, and Flamingo pink all scream “summer” and now your home can too! A quick lick of paint for a nice accent wall or a feature wall in a nice arch shape can change the way you view your living space. Adding these colours to soft furnishings can increase the summer feeling in your home. Adding drops of white throughout your living space can also help with this.

If you want to have the feeling of Greece or Croatia in your home, adding linens, creamy whites and sky/coastal blues will do the job for you. But if you prefer a city break, maybe try adding some warm yellows and oranges, and pops of green and spots of purple and pink! Maybe you like adventure holidays, you could add some accents of greens in various bright shades, and some blues to add some tranquility to your home!

Remember – there is no right or wrong when it comes to summer colours, if they’re bright and you like them, go for it!

Tip 2: Gingham

Gingham has taken the world by storm ever since COVID-19, both in fashion and at home! There are hundreds of ways you can use gingham. It’s so versatile and comes in lots of different colours and pattern sizes. It genuinely welcomes the creative mind to use it and put it wherever you like! A great example of using gingham is through linens or bedsheets and tablecloths on your outdoor dining sets. It’s the perfect way to introduce a little something-something to your ‘set’, and it will draw everyone’s attention to it too! I personally love gingham; I wear it, style it in my home, have it as a phone background… I could go on and on. But gingham in the home is huge, people are even painting the pattern directly on their walls to have a funky accent wall. The variety of colours and pattern sizes makes gingham possible for everyone to use! Not only that, but the fabric itself is very durable.

EXTRA TIP: An Outdoor Space

Creating an outdoor living area in your home is the best way to make the most of the Irish summer. Somewhere you can sit and soak up the rays. Something that is durable for the turbulent nature of our summers. Something you know will last a long time. Well look no further because at Michael Murphy Home Furnishing, we have a beautiful selection of outdoor furniture for you to choose from.

If you want something small and intimate, we recommend Naxos. This bistro set is made from rattan which adds that natural and boho touch we were talking about before. The cushions are comfortable and in a lovely creamy-white colour to give that Mediterranean feel. If you like the style of Naxos but think it might be a bit too small for your needs, why not try Mykonos instead? With a similar vibe, this lounge set comes through with the summer feeling from the colours and materials used throughout!
