We love transitional design. It’s a firm middle ground for those of us who can’t quite embrace the sleek, minimalist, modern style but yet don’t want our homes to look so lived in it’s like we’ve rejected style altogether.
This is where transitional design comes in. It’s an interior design style that helps us create a cosy space while still embracing a modern twist.
Let’s take a look at how you can employ some key transitional design elements in your home.
Create a calming colour palette.
Neutral colours are your best friends when crafting a transitional space because it’s vital that the room should feel like a place you can kick back and relax in. Grey and creams along with soft shades of blue, pink and green are firm favourites of ours.

Choose accessories carefully.
They must be cosy and pack a design punch. Choose plush cushions and luxurious throws as well as lots of area rugs too.
Furniture takes centre stage.
The transitional design style calls for large furniture with strong, clean lines (channelling that contemporary feel) but must always make the room feel welcoming. Think super-soft armchairs, opulent gold coffee tables and bed frames that look so cosy you never want to get out of bed!
