How to Keep Your Sheepskin Rug Clean this Christmas

A sheepskin rug is one of the warmest flooring options you can opt for this Christmas and will definitely keep your feet feeling cosy even on the coldest of winter nights.
However, sheepskin rugs are easily dirtied and if you’re not careful your beautiful rug will be matted and shabby in no time.
To prevent this from happening and prolong the sheepskin rug’s natural look we recommend taking the following steps.
- No Sunlight or Moisture
It’s essential you keep sheepskin rugs out of sunlight as this will bleach the material and dry the skin, resulting in a tough and unsightly rug. Similarly, you should avoid placing the rug on damp floors as moisture will cause the fibres to curl.
- No Hot Water, Tumble Dryers or Radiators
Avoid washing your sheepskin rug in a washing machine as hot water will cause the hide to harden, as will drying it in a tumble dryer or on a radiator. Instead, you should clean using a slightly damp cloth and light detergent and dry naturally away from direct heat.
- Clean Quickly and Shake Regularly
The key to keeping your sheepskin rug clean is to act fast when a spill occurs. Use the above directions as soon as there’s a spillage and you should be able to prevent the rug from permanently staining. It’s also a good idea to give the sheepskin rug a good shake and brush using a wide-toothed metal brush on a daily basis.
