Monday Mood Board: Summer Velvet

A decadent, super luxurious fabric that is almost always associated with winter due to its warmth and heavy texture; velvet is surprisingly beautiful in a brighter, sunnier environment than first assumed.  To prove the point, we’re looking at irresistible inspirational interiors and furniture that carry off the lighter side of velvet with success, tailoring it to an uplifting spring/summer feel.

Feeling Blue

Blue might suggest cold winter vibes upon first mention, but take a moment to consider the uplifting freshness across the various shades within this colour wheel. From pastels to royal, blue reinvigorates velvet with a boost of newfangled energy, whilst maintaining its sophisticated character.

Be Jewelled

Vibrancy gives life to any material, and jewel tones inject a serious amount of modernity and cheerful beauty into velvet. Opt for one jewel tone as a major lift in a room, or combine several shades together for a burst of brightness.

Natural Neutrals

It may be cheating to suggest neutrals as an option under these circumstances, as velvet in these tones really suit a year-round theme, not just a summer one. Muted shades in velvet can adhere to warm or cold seasonal aesthetics, swayed one way or the other by the accessories surrounding them. Fresh flowers with a velvet backdrop reads as instant spring/summer, whereas velvet coupled with a mahogany surround speaks to winter. So take the route of natural tones, playing up your decorative detail accordingly.

Green Finery

Garden and grassy tones will always evoke newness and a spring/summer refresh that works beautifully when it comes to interiors. And it does this exact job for velvet too. Green velvet appears ridiculously rich and luxurious, but this shade choice always offers up a brush of vivid light and freshness.
