We’ve always loved selecting and displaying fabulous pieces of wall art around our homes, but we’ve taken our love of delicate paintings and contemporary prints to a whole new level ever since the gallery wall became one of the biggest interior trends around.

For those of you who aren’t sure what a gallery wall is, it’s a collection of artwork hung together on the same wall space, designed to be a focal point of whatever room you’ve chosen.

It can be tough to curate your gallery wall and get it just right for your home, so we’ve consulted the experts and compiled a list of our top five tips for creating the perfect set-up.

1) Mix pieces of wall art in different sizes. This ensures that the wall is less uniform and more like a collection of your favourite pieces.

2) Incorporate a mixture of styles, photographs, sketches, paintings, prints. The more thrown together it looks the more impressive it seems.

3) Create some individuality by avoiding hanging pieces in straight lines and picking different sizes of frame so that some pieces of art sit higher than others.

4) Don’t smother your pieces by placing them all on top of one another. Allow a minimum of a three-inch gap to create some breathing space and allow each piece to shine.

5) Make sure that your light distribution goes across the whole wall and not just on one or two of the pieces. Each and everyone of them deserves the chance to be seen!
