Right, so we admit that the reasoning behind Blue Monday is completely nonsensical. It has been dubbed the most depressing day of the year, this conclusion reached by a sketchy (at best) equation. However, despite its dodgy foundations, the term ‘Blue Monday’ does give the opportunity for a different spin on things, turning our minds to the blue colour trend we have seen throughout interior fashions in the last year or so. And in the spirit of this, we have compiled a collection of images from the much beloved Pinterest, showcasing how effective blue tones can be throughout the home. We have also included a small selection of our own products below, to complete this dedication to blue.
Understated
The addition of colour under the counter tops and across the lower appliances really makes this bright kitchen come to life.
Grey/Blue Walls
A soft tone, this grey/blue shade provides a gentle, but expensive, feel to this space, acting as a lovely contrast to the greenery and neutral tones.
Doors & Walls
Matching the doors to the walls makes a space feel bigger and more open, giving a contemporary touch to any interior.
Mix It Up
Combining patterns, tones and textures in blue tones can really work, as shown below. The rusted brass complements the blues beautifully, breaking up the palette and adding balance to the space.
Light & Bright
Instead of white or cream, this very light, powdery blue shade sits perfectly on any wall, opening up a space, adding freshness and light without being too obvious in terms of palette.
Matchy Matchy
Using the same colour across different aspects of a room can be a little overpowering, but the cool tone of this blue maintains a softness, even though it is employed in both the walls and bedding. Extra points for the ash-tone timber headboard and light flooring.
Colour Pairings
You don’t have to keep to a blue and neutral palette. Shades like blush pink sit against a rich blue perfectly, adding femininity and unexpected contrast.
Statement Pieces
It’s not all about accessories or wall colour. Blue can be powerful when introduced in one statement piece – or two here, as the rug also packs a blue punch.
Wall Divides
Brushing blue onto the top or bottom portion of a wall and balancing the darker tone with a fresh white or cotton colour is extremely effective, creating a rich visual that has both contemporary and vintage leanings
