Animated Interiors: 5 More Disney Spaces We Wish Were Real

The chosen backdrops in animation speak volumes about the design of the film overall and the world it is set in, and luckily for us, Disney has a history of providing some gorgeous interiors in their classic features. We explored a few of these in a previous post – see here – as well as the joys Studio Ghibli has given us – see here – and now we’re delving back into the world of Disney, looking at 5 more animated interior delights.

Sleeping Beauty (1959)

Sleeping Beauty gave us Gothic perfection in almost every scene and the ornate arches, decorative columns, heavy fabrics and floral motif tiled flooring shown below are only a handful of examples.

Pinocchio (1940)

Beautifully drawn with a quaint approach, the sheer delight and cosiness of the spaces below immediately capture our interest. We love the heavy, rustic woodwork, ceiling beams and touches of green and polished metal details that Pinocchio employs. It all literally looks hand-crafted by Gipetto.

One Hundred and One Dalmations (1961)

The De Vil mansion may be in absolute disrepair, but that doesn’t do anything to hide its incredibly detailed design and ostentatious 1920’s air.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)

The attention paid by the animators to the French Gothic style is incredible in this film. Naturally, as it’s set in Paris and the story surrounds the Notre Dame, the film needed to pull these elements in, however with this much success and minute detail? We’re very impressed.

The Aristocats (1970)

A home befitting an opera diva, Madame Adelaide’s taste – as shown in the first image below – showcases a real look at exquisite style in Paris, c. 1910. Heavily ornate, the gold-tone metal details, heavy drapery, love of ruched window coverings and plush pillows in striking blue are only a few of the fabulous details to be found in this animated home.
